About Kealing PTA


The Kealing PTA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit association of parents, teachers, staff, and community members working together to support the success of all children at Kealing Middle School by:
  • fostering family and community engagement;
  • supporting programs that further Kealing students' social, emotional, physical, and academic development;
  • serving as a resource for Kealing families; and
  • advocating for the education and well-being of Kealing students.
Your membership in the Kealing PTA helps support our mission and the diverse array of programs we offer throughout the year. Each membership also includes access to the Texas PTA and National PTA, including PTA member discounts to popular retailers and service providers. Highlights of PTA Activities from 2016-17

Fostering Family and Community Engagement

  • Organized / hosted multiple parent and community social events: 
    • BTS popsicle social, parent coffee first day, fall and spring spaghetti dinners, Annual Thanksgiving dinner, MLK Day of Service and Peace through Pie Social, 30th anniversary re-opening celebration, Kealing Center Stage party.
  • Led environmental improvement programs:  
    • grounds days, Monarch Heroes program, construction on deck and ramp around garden shed, cafeteria waste reccepticles campaign
  • Promoted on-campus tutoring and mentoring opportunities to parents at Kealing.
  • Launched a new Kealing Business Supporter program to strengthen connections with surrounding community

Serving as a Resource for Kealing Families

  • Organized /hosted educational  and informational presentations for parents
    • Principal’s Coffee series, providing parents with opportunities to engage with the school administration 
    • info session on managing stress, substance abuse, and the hazards of digital media
    • info session and handout on free and affordable camp options for Kealing families
  • Organized the “Just In Case” program for families in need
    • in partnership with the UT School of Law, providing free legal & notary services
Supporting Programs that Further Kealing Students' Social, Emotional, Physical, and Academic Development
  • Provided funding for numerous school needs including:
    • Technology / equipment for classrooms: 30 Chromebooks, 60 headphones, classroom set of goggles,  3-D printer for the new maker space, 10iPad minis and charging station; 5 tripods and IPAD mini mounts
    • Curriculum needs:  Classroom books, teacher subscriptions to American Council on Teaching of Foreign Language
    • 90 Hours of tutoring support for Academy students
    • T-shirts for the entire 6th grade class for 6th grade intramurals/advisories
    • Drum kits and new volleyball net
    • Young Scientist’s Club
  • Supported school field trips: 
    • bus costs for AVID program to take students to visit universities in Houston; 6th grade field trip for Academy students; STEM Club field trip to McKinney Falls State Park, Introduction to Engineering trip
  • Supported students attending the Science Olympiads trip to nationals
  • Ran the Kealing PTA Reflections program (a national PTA program fostering creativity and the arts).
  • Sponsored Kealing Men, a mentorship program for Kealing youth.
  • Supported the school’s CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Children's Health) and wellness program.

Advocating for the Education and Well-Being of all Kealing Students

  • Organized breakfast and walk from Kealing to Capitol for the TX PTA Rally Day on Feb 27th. 
Supporting Kealing Teachers and Staff
  • Hosted appreciation events and programs for teachers and staff:
    • Back-to-school lunch, holiday party, and end-of-year staff appreciation breakfast; 
    • Secret Pal Program matching Kealing parents with teachers and staff to deliver treats throughout the year.
  • Started two new support programs:
    • Copy Fairy program: parent volunteers provided copying for Kealing teachers throughout the year.
    • Coffee cart service, delivering coffee to teachers’ classrooms.
  • Sponsored Staff development: 
    • Sent an Academy social studies teacher to a national conference, 3 teachers to the SWSXedu conference, an ESL teacher to Seattle for the TESOL conference, and three Spanish language teachers to attend a national conference in San Antonio.
    • Supported the Principal’s self care for teachers initiative
  • Funded teacher supplies: 
    • PTA and KMAG $100 to each teacher for supplies and materials for classrooms and after-school programs.

Fundraising

  • Raised more than $64,000 to support the school and PTA programs, including $42,000 from Kealing Center Stage, $6,000 from Spirit Wear sales, $7,500 from parent donations, and $3,500 from business outreach. 
  • Raised about $8,000 in in-kind and monetary donations through launch of new Kealing Business Supporter program.
